How the hell did we miss this one when it dropped??? We follow Vivid Bloom. We’re fans of Vivid Bloom. Or at least we thought we were??? Flub on our part aside, the latest single from the Boston Sludge-gaze/Post-Dream outfit is large and in charge and coming in hot like the yin to SOM’s yang. Or is it the yang to SOM’s yin? Anyway, what we’re trying to say is that the song rules. And that if you dig what SOM does (Or, by association, Junius or Constants) then we strongly urge you to check this one out!
Vocalist/guitarist Erika Hansen, Bassist Tracy Putnam, Guitarist Dan Parlin and Drummer Alison Murray have gift wrapped a gnarly sonic nugget in the form of “In Strange Places” that’s equal parts immediate, intimate and iconic. Honing in on what makes genres like Post-Rawk, Grunge, Sludge, Shoegaze, Alternative and Dream Pop great then putting a Vivid Bloom spin on it is “In Strange Places” in a nutshell with Hansen’s effervescent vocal delivery hovering like a spectre as the rhythmic rumble from Putnam and Murray perfectly plays off the spacious melodies that both Hansen and Parlin unleash from their guitar work.
“In Strange Places” is out now and you can find your very own copy to stream and/or download by heading here or to the stream below.
