We’ve been hyping it for weeks and now that the expanded 2023 edition of In Between Days has come and gone we guess the only thing left to do is… hype it some more??? That’s right! We came, we saw, we looked around, we watched most of the bands, we ate some food and now we’re going to tell you all about it with our full recap of Day 1 of the 2-day In Between Days Festival which happened at Veterans Memorial Stadium over in Quincy, MA on August 19th.

Chances are, if you saw SLOTHRUST’s recent mini-tour earlier this summer then you caught Portland, ME’s own Weakened Friends as direct support. If you didn’t catch that tour then you’re in luck because you get a reunion at this year’s In Between Days Festival (SLOTHRUST play the same day on the IBD stage) when Weakened Friends take the Arbella Insurance Stage on Day 1 of the 2-day event happening at Veterans Memorial Stadium over in Quincy on August 19th & 20th!

The more and more we dive into the artists appearing on this year’s In Between Days Festival, the more we realize that our bank account is due for some major withdrawals with all the merch we’re already planning to invest in while also trying to figure out how we’re going to lug everything around all day (Are hand carts allowed on the grounds?)! We’re also realizing that, while we’re trying to keep these preview posts short and sweet, it’s frelling hard with the volume of material some of the artists have out in the world currently. And that brings us to SLOTHRUST who recently dropped what’s essentially a double album within the span of 6 months (Parallel Timeline arrived in September of 2021 with Parallel Timeline (Origins) featuring new and demo versions of PT tracks arriving in March of 2022) and will be bringing an array of those unique sounds to the IBD Stage on Day 1 of the 2-day music and more festival happening at Veterans Memorial Stadium in Quincy on August 19th & 20th.

Sooooo, we’re going to stray from the pack a little here since The Gypsy Moths have a new record dropping following their performance at this year’s In Between Days Festival and figured that a new album review would serve as the best preview before they take the Arbella Stage on Day 1 of the 2-day fest happening on August 19th and 20th at Veterans Memorial Stadium over in Quincy!

Sometimes you come across an artist and their initial press release or, in this case, Bandcamp bio and the description is so spot on that you think “Why can’t we just copy pasta that whole thing???” or “How are we gonna top that???” And then we go and try because that’s what we do! Which brings us to our latest In Between Days guest: Kat Wright! Playing the Arbella Stage on Day 2 of the 2-day In Between Days Festival happening at Veterans Memorial Stadium in Quincy happening on August 19th & 20th, Wright’s sound completely enraptures with an aesthetic that’s summed up concisely if you were to split the difference between Mark Ronson’s Version and Record Collection albums. See! We kinda did it!

There’s a lot of good reasons to check out In Between Days Festival which happens at Veterans Memorial Stadium in Quincy on August 19th & 20th. From last year’s inaugural run to this year, they’ve only gotten bigger by expanding to 2 days meaning more chances to find your new favorite band! Beyond the music, though, they’ve teamed with Bit Bar Salem for a retro arcade, have Little City Thrifty Vintage Market and The Good Trade Makers Market readying a truly unique marketplace experience for attendees AND have some killer chow ready for hungry bellies. Happening, ahem, in between all that is the most unique aspect of this year’s event which is the partnership with 1 Million Strong that’s brought to IBD by The Phoenix.

We cannot say enough good things about Paper Tigers. They blew us away with their performance at the revived Rock & Roll Rumble earlier in the year, have been delivering some solid singles recently, and have an upcoming new full-length that is easily becoming one of our most anticipated releases of 2023. Obviously, we have some words to share about our excitement and also give you some more reasons to check them out when they play In Between Days on Day 1 of the festival which happens at Veterans Memorial Stadium in Quincy on August 19th & 20th!

The biggest issue for us in doing one of these “Local Look” posts for an artist we’ve already covered a bunch (And we mean, like, a BUNCH) in these pages is making sure we contain this to a novella size and not a whole novel, y’know? Think one of the books in the original serial version of The Green Mile and not the combined 432 pages of all six mini-books together. Anyway! Carissa Johnson is playing this year’s In Between Days Festival, appearing on the Arbella Insurance stage on Day 1 of the event happening on August 19th & 20th over at Veterans Memorial Stadium in Quincy and we have some words (Again, just some words) to share on why you should make it out early to catch the live spectacle in person!

Who’s ready for something a little softer and probably the most perfect artist to ease you into Day 2 of In Between Days after what is sure to be one heckuva comedown following the Day 1 launch??? Well, get ready for Sweet Petunia then because they might just have the stuff within them to conjure up the right kind of sonic magic to start off Sunday smashingly!
