Constants Return With Remixes, Remasters, Covers, And A New Tune On Devotion

28 April 2020 By jesse Leave a Comment

B-sides and remix collections can be a mixed bag. On the one hand you get records that stand on their own as a completed piece of collected music (Killers’ Sawdust comes to mind) while with others it seems like your favorite band is half assing it to fulfill some contract or bide time in between records.

Silvertomb Celebrate All Things Doom, Expand The Type O Negative Legacy On Edge Of Existence

31 October 2019 By jesse Leave a Comment

One of our most anticipated of the year arrived later than expected but is easily worth the wait. From the ashes of Type O Negative and, more accurately, Seventh Void comes the new project from guitarist/vocalist Kenny Hickey alongside frequent partner-in-crime Johnny Kelly on drums who reunite for Silvertomb and this monumental slab of Gothic Doom called Edge Of Existence that is sure to fill the gap left in your black hearts in a world without Peter Steele.

A Subtle Rebuttal: Re-Ordering Type O Negative’s Albums From Awful To Least Worst Of

14 February 2019 By jesse 1 Comment

A few years back, Metal Hammer decided to rank Type O Negative’s discography from worst to first and, as a lifelong tattoo-emblazoned/double digit seeing TON fan, I was slightly put off by the whole thing. That said, and at the urging of bostonregina, I decided to rectify their mistakes and make my own list.

Kenny Hickey: A Rock and Roll Fables Conversation

4 October 2018 By jesse 1 Comment

Watching a Silvertomb show, featuring former Type O Negative guitarist Kenny Hickey and drummer Johnny Kelly, is equally a transcendent and cathartic experience. Rounded out by Joseph James on guitar, Aaron Joos on keys, backing vocals, and guitar, and the indomitable Hank Hell and his fierce stage presence on bass, the sound is simply massive. A sum of all its’ parts, Silvertomb is a Doom outfit in the vein of Type O Negative with Kelly’s thunderous drumming alongside Hickey’s signature riffs and uncanny voice. [Read more…]

Without even hearing a note, the new project featuring former Type O Negative members Kenny Hickey and Johnny Kelly already had a spot on our “Most Anticipated Of 2018” list that we posted in January (Don’t believe us? Click here). [Read more…]

Modern Mimes Preview Next Full-Length With New Single “Stare”

28 August 2018 By jesse Leave a Comment

I became aware of Fort Lauderdale’s Modern Mimes after their cover of Type O Negative’s “I Don’t Wanna Be Me” was released and, quite frankly, was pretty blown away. As a tattoo-emblazoned, TON-loving uber fan (As in, bought the Playgirl and had it signed…or bought tickets at a far away outdoor amphitheater to see them despite the set being just an opening slot for Queensryche) I was impressed not only because it takes some chutzpah to cover Type O in the first place but then to take on one of the “modern” tracks to boot? Get outta here! But they did it justice and managed to elevate it beyond the original.  [Read more…]
