In only a relatively short time, we feel it’s safe to say that any new music announced from Lovina Falls is cause for celebration. We also feel it’s safe to say that on their latest single, “Light and Low”, Lovina Falls is having their own full circle moment by returning to the Dark Cabaret/Baroque Pop roots heavily featured throughout the grandness of debut LP Calculating the Angle of Our Descent and combining it with the more Indie/Alternative leanings of recent singles (“Ellery Way” especially) which tapped into the sounds of Mistle Thrush, the former outfit of Lovina Falls’ chief singer/songwriter Valerie Forgione.
The hum from the bass which begins “Light and Low” is both vibrant and hypnotic with Forgione’s pointed bursts of verses unlike what’s come before on previous Lovina Falls recordings that we can remember as Todd Demma keeps a steady pace on drums. Also on board for “Light and Low” are David Minehan on additional guitars and Brenden Cobb on Tremolo Guitar but the true star, at the center of it all, is multi-instrumentalist Forgione who creates an effervescent atmosphere through the use of that aforementioned bass, harpsichord, keyboards, piano and drum programming which shines during an especially spirited breakdown/beat(s)down further into the track.
