Wrought Iron Hex Wreak Noisy Havoc With New Batch Of Raucous Rawk On Hexes & Halos

There’s nothing quite like tuning into some new Wrought Iron Hex and being treated to the best the NYC Heavy Music scene had to offer in the ’90’s (Girls Against Boys, Unsane, Prong) but “Boston-ized” (Totally a word). Add in some early Clutch in there (The intro to “Disco Creep” especially lays out some big “Impetus” feels) and that’s WIH’s newest release, Hexes & Halos, for those looking for the FFO review.

For the rest of y’all, the newest from Boston’s Wrought Iron Hex is more than worth the wait in between releases kicking off with the biting “Slider” which is just a mess of noise Rawk as boisterous bass lines, nasty sounding riffage, frenetic yet on point drumming, and some fiery vocals collide in perfect synchronicity. “Disco Creep” is built off Jose Morales’ bombastic drumming and Brian Keane’s complementary bass work while “Face the Truth” is pure old school Helmet (Again with the ’90’s NYC stuff) as relentless riffs flow out of Jason Foster.

“Ride” is where things get a little murkier, dwelling in Desert Rawk territory with airs of Nebula, Fu Manchu and even Melvins at times permeating about as the track meticulously rallies for a solid six minutes and change before “Circle” ends Hexes & Halos with some exquisitely executed crunchy riffage and gargantuan grooves from Foster, Morales, and Keane.

Hexes & Halos is out now on Soulow Flow Records and Fat Togue Music and you can get your copy right away by heading here or to the stream below. For more from Wrought Iron Hex, including info on where to catch them in the wild next, hit the socials by clicking here or here.
