Bird Language Up The Aural Ante On Banger New EP Chasing Echoes

The annual Rock & Roll Rumble, for us, is not only a chance to celebrate some already faves getting the chance to shine in front of a broader audience but also the opportunity to potentially pick up some new ones. Like Bird Language who rocked the 2023 edition of the annual showdown on the heels of full-length 625 Days and ahead of some new tasty jams in the just released “Slow Shove” and last year’s “Heartbreak Summertime” (Which we reviewed here).

Speaking of both those recent singles brings us to the present and a new collection of tasty sonic treats from the Boston quintet called Chasing Echoes which includes the two aforementioned ditty’s along with two more previously unreleased badass bangers. “Heartbreak Summertime” which initially dropped late last summer is even more gorgeous in the context of the new BL EP with what we think is a more proper representation of the band’s live performance sound as is “Slow Shove” which opens the release with Jeff Nicolai’s unmistakable croon piercing through the wall of sound delivered by guitarists Andrew Doherty and Neil Simmons with Michael Nashawaty (For this recording with Dave Norton listed as the current BL drummer) and Pat Piasecki’s respective drum and bass fortifying the flowing tide before an all out jam sesh wraps it all up.

“Perdido” lets Ncolai’s keys light up for a kind of ’70’s Prog-like opening which definitely gave us Supertramp vibes before the Simmons/Doherty guitar glaze taps in and takes the song in a wholly different direction while closer “Full Voltron” is just as monumental as the giant robot its’ named after and seemingly hearkens back to the earlier days of Oasis and their massive instrumental interludes/intros (Think “Swamp Song” and “Fuckin’ In The Bushes”).

Chasing Echoes arrives on June 7th digitally with vinyl to follow soon after. Head here for all the links to make sure you can hear the EP as soon as it drops and for the latest from Bird Language, follow them across the information superhighway by clicking here, here, or here.
