Your favorite new artist of 2024 is already here?!?! That can’t be right, can it? But just listen to the Alt Americana meanderings coming out of Boston’s TELL and, ahem, tell us we’re wrong, okay?

Duos! it’s what’s for dinner?!?! No? Just seems like we have more than one duo to cover today is all. But anyway! DNA’s Evolution is your new favorite Taunton-based band with a sound that’s like that Josh Homme meets Death From Above 1979 connection with an Indie aesthetic. You just don’t know it yet.
But you will when you dive into “‘Til I Break” which dropped late in 2023 and is currently ripe for your earholes to devour. Starting like The Blues Brothers’ “I Can’t Turn You Loose” with its’, ahem, bluesy beginnings from Derek Reckard’s playing on “all the Guitar things” and Adam Cardoza’s shuffling drum beats the track soon opens up into a fervor of frets and stick shrapnel to become a solid three minute and change Rawk anthem with a killer chorus.
“‘Til I Break It” is out now and can be found along with a plethora of other solid music from DNA’s Evolution right here. For more from the band, including info on their upcoming show at News Cafe in Pawtucket, RI with The Mighty Suicide Squirrels, Typhoid Mary & Dandelion Pipebomb on March 23rd, follow them across their socials by clicking here, here, and here.
Singles! Premiere! Tysk Tysk Task, “Trazodone”
There’s a few artists we’ve come across over the years that, when the announcement of new music of any sort arrives, we automatically start a draft or add the album or tune to a usually already in progress year end list because what they’ve created thus far is just that damn good. Lowell’s Tysk Tysk Task is quickly becoming one of those artists for us and following January’s release of “Intolerable”, we were inclined to go that route with new single “Trazodone”. And not to toot our own methods but upon actually hearing the new jam in full, we can’t see any reason why TTT wouldn’t maintain that status from now on.

We can’t really say enough about the mesmerizing sounds that The Shallows conjure throughout their debut record Wave State. On both a local and national level, The Shallows create music that’s tantamount to a certain era but still stands out as timeless. And on an album of highlights, the debut track from that lush collection of ethereal aural journeys, “Channels”, remains a stand out.

Surprisingly enough, finding 24 albums incoming for 2024 was pretty easy. Maybe it’s that backlog of creativity that’s still pouring out following a global pandemic or maybe it’s just timing but whatever the case may be, we like it. A lot! Especially with a bevy of the releases mentioned below popping up within the first 3 months of the upcoming new year. In fact, by the time this finally comes out the end will be here for Project 86 who release the 2nd half of their closing curtain called OMNI and, spoiler alert, it’s pretty spectacular. Also already out and worthy of your attention are the latest opuses from The Clamps who bring some fuzzed out Rawk you need to hear, the blistering devastation of Domination Campaign, and the funky frenetic chaos of No Terror In The Bang.

It can’t be almost forty years of the Ultra Heavy Beat, can it? Seems like only yesterday we were walking over to the now defunct Avalon in Boston to see them for the first time on the Symbols tour… which, come to think of it, was almost 30 years ago at this point. So yeah, math is adding up but KMFDM is not slowing down and with their latest, and 23rd (!!!) overall, they’re continuing to prove how they lasted as long as they have.

We live in a truly blessed age. One where tragedy brings triumph sometimes and following a well thought out roll out, a band that essentially could’ve been forgotten has been utterly reborn. We’re of course, talking about Static-X who is set to release the second half of their Project Regeneration series ahead of another new tour celebrating the legacy of the late Wayne Static.

Um, we think we may have already stumbled upon one of our most favorite records of 2024 already??? At the very least, the newest from Heave Blood & Die has already caused us to start our ‘Best of ’24’ drafts list fairly early. We like Burnout Codes so much that it’s one of those records where we’re hesitant to listen to it too much right now for fear of getting sick of its’ brilliance (And we’ve already listened to it a LOT) but honestly, we don’t foresee that happening anytime soon. Or maybe we’re just repeating that to ourselves because we can’t stop listening to it???

The fiery enigma that is Lowell’s Tysk Tysk Task is an artist that’s just as compelling now as when we first heard them and even more so when you factor in the visual element surrounding the mystique (Read: Get to a Tysk Tysk Task show!) After a relatively quiet year on the recording front, but definitely not on the live front with multiple appearances during the 2023 Rock & Roll Rumble resurrection among other shows throughout last year, Tysk Tysk Task kicked off 2024 by not only unveiling a brand new song featuring the fresh new TTT lineup band but also with the recent announcement that the band would be taking part in this year’s annual Boston Calling music festival appearing on Day 3 of the stacked lineup which also features Killers, Megan Thee Satllion, Hozier & more over Memorial Day weekend from May 24th through May 26th.
