Singles! Sunday Junkie, “Wasted Embers”

We love it when a plan comes together. Well, not actually a plan but more wishful thinking that turns out to be something of substance. The “substance” in this case is even more new music from Sunday Junkie on the way toward their highly anticipated second LP in a Local-ish field that is seeing a lot of first-time second albums on the way. Yes, we know what we typed. And we also know that “Wasted Embers” is a gem and if the rest of the upcoming SJ album sounds even remotely like this then we need to seriously consider upping our expectations because between the 2 tracks released now, they’ve already been exceeded (Not to Editor: Insert “mind blown” emoji here plz).

Anyway!

“Wasted Embers”, like “Kerosene” which preceded it in February, is a modern Alt-Rawk juggernaut in the making with each and every Sunday Junkie track revealing another layer of sonic awesome. Think that scene in the original Shrek where the titular hero is comparing his layers to that of an onion to Donkey. This is just like that. Except not composed of a hulking green mass. And not stinky.

A little more atmospheric as whole with some Not Bad Not Well (Vocalist/Lyricist/Multi-Instrumentalist Tom Martin and Drummer/Percussionist Shawn Pelkey’s former outfit together) and newer Failure vibes seeping in, “Wasted Embers” is both intimate and expansive with the alluring sonic world conjured by Martin and Pelkey yet still deeply emotive thanks to Martin’s lyrics and vocal approach.

“Wasted Embers” is out now and you can find your copy by heading here or to the stream below. For more from Sunday Junkie, including all the latest on that previously mentioned new album, hit the interwebs and their socials located here, here or here.
