“Time! Stands still for the wicked!”
The good news? There’s new Crossbreed music to talk up! The (sorta) bad news? It’ll be a little bit of a wait before you can hear the LP that “Time Stands Still” is a part of with the recent announcement that the hotly anticipated Radiation Therapy will now see a release on December 1st. But let’s focus on the positive, shall we?
As for this new sonic gem? If you were looking for hints of “Old School” Crossbreed in the new stuff that’s been steadily staking claim in all our collective headspaces then in our humble opinion “Time Stands Still” is the one that most closely resembles Crossbreed’s beginnings yet is still filled with all the modern flourishes that continually puts the James Rietz-led Florida-based Cyber-Metal Techno-shredders on the forefront of their ever-evolving hybrid genre.
This latest track once again features Wade Harris (Who you’ll surely remember from Crossbreed’s recent cover of EMF’s “Unbelievable” which you can read about here) and upon first listen through we were brought back to our first experience with the band, pressing “play” on “Severed” after picking up a promo of the CD in the record store we worked at because the cover looked cool and having no idea what was about to happen. With “Time Stands Still”, fans get that equally intense, inventive and incendiary originality that Crossbreed has always brought as Rietz sounds as vicious as ever across a pulsating three minutes and change of punctuated Industrial-tinged noise that’s a cross between The Prodigy circa The Fat of the Land and Front Line Assembly during their Devin Townsend pairing (Read: Millennium).
