We live in a truly blessed age. One where tragedy brings triumph sometimes and following a well thought out roll out, a band that essentially could’ve been forgotten has been utterly reborn. We’re of course, talking about Static-X who is set to release the second half of their Project Regeneration series ahead of another new tour celebrating the legacy of the late Wayne Static.

Um, we think we may have already stumbled upon one of our most favorite records of 2024 already??? At the very least, the newest from Heave Blood & Die has already caused us to start our ‘Best of ’24’ drafts list fairly early. We like Burnout Codes so much that it’s one of those records where we’re hesitant to listen to it too much right now for fear of getting sick of its’ brilliance (And we’ve already listened to it a LOT) but honestly, we don’t foresee that happening anytime soon. Or maybe we’re just repeating that to ourselves because we can’t stop listening to it???

The fiery enigma that is Lowell’s Tysk Tysk Task is an artist that’s just as compelling now as when we first heard them and even more so when you factor in the visual element surrounding the mystique (Read: Get to a Tysk Tysk Task show!) After a relatively quiet year on the recording front, but definitely not on the live front with multiple appearances during the 2023 Rock & Roll Rumble resurrection among other shows throughout last year, Tysk Tysk Task kicked off 2024 by not only unveiling a brand new song featuring the fresh new TTT lineup band but also with the recent announcement that the band would be taking part in this year’s annual Boston Calling music festival appearing on Day 3 of the stacked lineup which also features Killers, Megan Thee Satllion, Hozier & more over Memorial Day weekend from May 24th through May 26th.

While born in the age of MTV, we don’t pay as much attention to video treatments as we once did and when we do we definitely make sure it’s time well spent. While Lonely Leesa & the Lost Cowboys’ “Stayed 2017” might not necessarily be what you’d consider “time well spent” given the heavy subject matter and heavy rollout throughout the Leesa Coyne-directed and produced video, it’s definitely important to witness and a powerful new visual to accompany the song originally released in 2017 and resurrected in 2024 in protest of an upcoming Supreme Court ruling determining if domestic abuse orders can prevent abusers from owning and possessing handguns.

Just as last year’s “Xmas in Hell” served as a sort of anti-Holiday jam you never knew you needed in your life, “No Contact” provides a different sort of service catering to those out there with the post-Holiday blues or just an aversion to the doldrums of January in general.

In the time it took us to attach the album artwork to this post, the newest from Weymouth’s Wasp Mother was already almost over. So yeah, Digital Pollution‘s six tracks are extremely short overall but that’s par for the course when dealing with such extreme sounds in the way that the South Shore quartet do. And that’s not to say what’s within doesn’t leave a lasting impression because they certainly do that!

One of our favorite kinds of introductions to a new song is when it immediately has this sort of indescribable sound and the word “timeless” as a descriptor loudly rings out. When talking the newest effort from Boston’s Derek Smith and the Cosmic Vultures, that opening sentence tends to ring pretty true.

From what we’ve heard so far, Canyons and Locusts is of the mind that you don’t wanna overstay your welcome when it comes to song length and that leave while the part is still poppin’ mentality prevails once again on newest single “Soo All The Way”.

This past year we decided to do things a little differently as we approached our year end round up as we felt that a lot of local talent gets overshadowed when we do our annual year ender so instead of doing just one MASSIVE list to include everything that we thought was rad we divided the list in two so that both National and Local acts got time to bask in the glow of their 2023 achievements.
