Singles! Stop That Man, “Bubblegum”

Recently, we had the fortune of covering a slew of newer singles lovingly dubbed as “feel bad” tracks serving as some righteous alternatives to your typical Summer anthems (So maybe we had the “misfortune” of covering those songs…). While the latest from Stop That Man, “Bubblegum”, isn’t entirely in there we’d definitely categorize it under some sort of cloud of melancholy. But in a good way!

A far cry from their first batch of releases (Did you already hear No Sir? It’s awesome! Go listen here right now!), the latest from MA’s Stop That Man is even more introspective and intimate with a new bout of urgency that’s ever present and immediate under the guise of this grand Indie Rawk. Matt Ohanian leads the way here with guitars that shimmy and shimmer and tread a fine line between Jazz and Emo with Wylie Bednar and Connor Foley adding diverting and divergent melodies on the respective Drums and Bass. In the Vocal department, there is something utterly enthralling about the way that Erin Reilly sings and, especially on this one, the words just hit harder as they weave in and around the instrumental aspects of Stop That Man before culminating in the repeated refrain of “I’m left feeling like a kid/But I’ve never felt youthful” that comes out of a spoken word portion with Reilly narrowly containing a growl that leads into this glorious sustained scream during the inevitable end of “Bubblegum”.
