It’s probably fitting that I’m just finishing Scott Ian’s autobiography (I’m The Man, out now and available here) when the news about the Anthrax guitarist’s latest project came across my desk. Like Mr. Ian, I learned about Jim Wilson and Mother Superior when they backed Henry Rollins on the Rollins Band album Get Some Go Again. Ian went a step further with Wilson by forming Motor Sister which also features Pearl Aday, John Tempesta, and Joey Vera in its ranks.
However, if you’re expecting some kind of Armored Saint meets Pearl meets Testament meets Anthrax amalgamation then you might be in the wrong place. What you have on their debut album, recorded over just two days, is revamped versions of Mother Superior songs which in today’s sometimes stale rock and roll climate is definitely a breath of fresh air. If you’re a fan of heavy blues-infused rawk then Motor Sister is a band you need to check out. You can listen to “This Song Reminds Me Of You” below.
Ride is out through Metal Blade Records on March 10th. Pre-orders are available right here.
