Like most, we like to think we not only have pretty eclectic taste when it comes to music in general but especially when it comes to our all-time favorite lists of vocalists. One such artist is Karl Middleton who we knew from the mucho-underrated-and-so-ahead-of-their-time earthtone9 (Check out all they have to offer here) and followed along as he ventured into projects like The Blueprint and the focus of today’s word vomit, Blackstorm.
Formed in the mid-aughts following the first ending to e9, Blackstorm presented another facet of Middleton’s musical identity by leaning into a (slightly) more straightforward Rawk iteration as opposed to e9’s more progressive Metal tendencies who spewed out some solid tunes, records, and tours. Eventually they went on a hiatus until returning after eight years in 2022 with the release of single “Iron Harvest”. A fine foundation to start the resurrection of Blackstorm, “Iron Harvest” was familiar and firm with its’ intent.
That said, “Heavy Energy” is like a whole ‘nother level of Blackstorm excellence. A sprawling Doom-laden ditty that’s quite the (re)introduction to guitarist Neil Kingsbury, bassist Steve McCusker, drummer Jon Perry, and vocalist Middleton’s brand of heaviness, “Heavy Energy” sounds like the beginning of an exciting new chapter from the UK outfit with a spectacular outro that catches the quartet of mighty maestros embroiled in a magnificent jam sesh before fading out.
“Heavy Energy” is out now and can be yours to stream and/or download via all your most favorite streaming sites and more by heading here. For the latest on Blackstorm, follow them across the information superhighway by clicking here, here, or here.
