Singles! Close To Monday, “Only Man”

We love to discover an artist and it’s like walking into the middle of a movie you’ve never seen and trying to figure out what’s going on (Although as avid movie nerds we don’t suggest you ever do that if possible). Take Darkwave Synth duo Close To Monday for example who, for all of 2024, has been delivering a new song each month as part of a single release series. October just started, kiddies, there’s a LOT going on.

But for now we’re going to look at the most recent release, “Only Man”, which kind of like our opening word vomit said is like walking into the middle of an epic film (Let’s go with David Lynch’s Dune for this one especially in relation to the weird and the wonderful) or in this case a whole franchise with how Close To Monday’s year has gone up until now. With “Only Man”, and unlike the previous three releases (“Leaves”, “Flight”, “Different”), the duo go for an expansive sonic experimentation that’s a far cry from the upbeat tracks that preceded it. Chilling at times but eerily uplifting as well (And getting back to the cinematic scope we mentioned), “Only Man” is like that haunting closing scene before a particular season ends or when that first part in a saga comes to a close and all hope is seemingly lost yet a glimmer of hope still remains. So yeah, Close To Monday put that vibe into song form.

“Only Man” is out now and you can hear it via all your favorite dsp’s which can be found by heading here. For more from Close To Monday, including all the latest on their monthly new song roll out, follow them across the information superhighway by clicking here or here.
