Sometimes we have no idea how things come across our radar. More often than not it’s a pitch but on rare occasions it’s one of those “Oh! This band we dig follows/tours with this band! We should check that out!” or something along those lines. Luxury Skin was one of those “on our own” finds because of something we just mentioned and we’re so happy we get to talk up their latest video/single “Hole In My Head” because it rules.
If you’ve never heard Luxury Skin before then “Hole In My Head” is a pretty great starting point as the song nicely embodies the Baroque/Pop/Hip-Hop aesthetic that the band often inhabits. Imagine Soul Coughing teaming up with Tori Amos and Nas for a project and that might give you a better idea of what “Hole In My Head” brings with the blistering beats, piano-driven melodies and hypnotic vocal flow featured on here. Juliet E. Gordon is the one responsible for those incomparable vocals and ivory attacks while Gintas Janusonis brings the unique backbone of the track behind the kit.
The accompanying video (That you can check out above), directed and edited by Gordon (With Cinematography by Sam Falconi, extra “all around helpful good stuff” by Seth Naugle, additional filming by Henri Falconi and Make up by Andrew D’Angelo), is a wondrous spectacle to behold and truly one of a kind with the fantastical storytelling straight out of a Wes Anderson opening montage.
