You know how you listen to certain artists and you can almost immediately tell that they’ve got “it”? That’s basically what we think when we hear anything from Other Brother Darryl. Or more accurately, “2024 Boston Music Award winning Other Brother Darryl”! It’s been a gradual build for sure from the Alternative Country group known as OBD that saw 2024 culminate with that aforementioned well-deserved Boston accolade following many a memorable live performance (We witnessed the greatness during their Rock & Roll Rumble appearances earlier in the year) playing many a memorable single released throughout the year.
And now they’re back with “Watch The Trees”, the proper lead single from upcoming debut full-length Roll Shine Roll (Arriving on February 28th), which is a properly peppy jam fitting for a lead track that adds even more rich textures to an already lush musical palette. It’s also one of the few on the upcoming album to feature late bandmate Dave Mirabella singing and playing guitar.
We’ve been following along the OBD journey over the past year or so and can guarantee you haven’t heard a song quite like “Watch The Trees” yet. For soon-to-be forever fans it’s the perfect combination of songwriting prowess and all around musicianship to entice those who don’t already know why OBD is something to believe in while for others who’ve already boarded the train “Watch The Trees” further confirms that the musical magic this collective conjure is truly special.
From the soothing strumming to start from Nate Leavitt and Derek Feeney (Along with Mirabella) with Dan Cederholm’s steady sticks keeping the pace through to Dan Nicklin’s serene and soulful entrance vocally with accompaniment from multi-instrumentalist Chad Raleigh to Jim Collins’ bass lines as the song emerges from the breakdown into a grand ole chorus and Nicklin’s urging of “Won’t you turn it up loud” that’s more a strong recommendation than a suggestion and onto a blistering soul stirring organ solo from Dave Lieb, “Watch The Trees” is the epitome of Other Brother Darryl excellence.
