Quicksand Bring Lean, Mean Collection Of Instantly Iconic Modern Post-Hardcore Across Bring On The Psychics Ahead Of Impending Tour With Bane

As is the trend these days, there seems to be a LOT more singles released ahead of a given record. We’re unsure if this is to deal with the widespread Short Attention Span Theater raging across the Globe or if it’s for some other reason but love it or hate it (For the record, we don’t particularly care for it), it’s the new norm. Even iconic bands like Quicksand are playing in that sandbox, rolling out a PLETHORA of sonic offerings ahead of their upcoming 5th LP Bring On The Psychics.

That said, if you’ve been paying attention, you’ve heard half of BOTP already with the unofficial roll out starting as far back as 2024 when “Supercollider” released as part of Quicksand’s split with Hot Water Music in October of that year. However, just because you’ve heard 5 out of 10 doesn’t mean you have the whole picture by any means as the stuff in between here adds depth and heft despite the 30 minute runtime for a lean, mean Quicksand that’s more than a little reminiscent of the outfit that put out Slip over 30 years ago.

Easily the most intense Quicksand record in some time, BOTP begins with the manic urgency of lead single “Get To It” which is somehow both classic Quicksand through and through yet one of the most visceral tracks from the band in some time. Drummer Alan Cage, Bassist Sergio Vega and Vocalist/Guitarist Walter Schreifels follow that opening shot with “Regenerate”, a low end leaning Heavy with a timeless feel that’d fit in anywhere across their storied discography. “Agency” is the first “new” one (Read: previously unreleased) and it’s a bombastic bout of iconic Quicksand before “Crystallize” shimmers as Schreifels’ layered harmonies shine and Vega’s Bass sounds larger than life, creating an ingrained buzz throughout the track.

“In Full Color” is enduring and packed with Grooves that slows up the record ever so slightly to make way for the smooth sounds of “Days You Run To” which is actually the first breather on the record with “Cool Guy” sticking with that pace but ramping up the ferocity. “Moving Forward” is just glorious with perfect sing-a-long moments as Cage moves like a machine with these percussive attacks as Vega’s constant rumble weaves in and out of the forefront to either complement Cage or stay out of Schreifels’ Post-Punk guitar melodies as needed. The title track rounds out Quicksand’s fifth full-length with an all-encapsulating sonic anthem that touches on every era of the band but also reminds listeners of their potent staying power.

Bring On The Psychics arrives through Equal Vision Records on July 17th with pre-order and pre-save options available now for viewing by heading here or to the stream below.
