Parts Per Million continue to compel and impress with each release and even before we were turned onto the New England quartet while researching the 2023 Rock & Roll Rumble class (An easy favorite of ours yet one of the only nights we missed that year) they were transcending far beyond your average Alternative-tinged Heavy Grunge act with the way each song consistently delivers a relevant sermon wrapped in a sonically crushing catharsis.
Perhaps their most aggressive track to date, and rightly so given the subject matter this time around, “Her Song” is no different than other PPM musical prose with purpose on this raging track (And accompanying video) in support of reproductive rights and a woman’s right choose. Despite the incendiary feel, “Her Song” is filled with hypnotic verses and illuminating instrumentation but when Paul McSweeney begins to sing, make no mistake, a no holds barred battle is on with biting verses and searing guitar lines from McSweeney and S. Brian Bailey to match the seething voice barking out the lyrics. Coupled with Brad Griffen’s pummeling percussive noise and Alex Marks’ rhythmic thunder on the bass, “Her Song” is a stunning work of art and could be Parts Per Million’s best piece of music yet… and that doesn’t even include the visual accompaniment
Oh yes, kiddies, there’s a video to boot! And what’s inside is every bit as fiery (See below as sometimes it’s quite literally) as the song it’s associated with! The treatment, written and directed by McSweeney and Tyler Ayers, features the band in action playing interspersed by scenes of silent protest with hard hitting messages in an attempt to break out of the proverbial (Both figuratively and literally unfortunately) cages that many find themselves in due to the will of others.
“Her Song” arrives at your most favorite DSP’s on September 13th while the accompanying video drops earlier on September 10th. Check here for both. For more from Parts Per Million, follow their socials across the information superhighway by heading here, here, or here.
