Bad Pop Punk songs, in our opinion, are probably one of the most throwaway and interchangeable kinds of music ever. How many bands emerged during the bigger boom of the genre during the mid-aughts and since and just delivered paint-by-numbers Pop Punk? Lots! Not naming names because we ain’t got time to negativify (Not a word) the already aggrieved parties but in terms of meaningful and memorable it’s rare that stadium-ready Rawkers like Green day, blink 182 or even Turnstile to an extent are even a thing much less thrive to this day.
That all said, it’s exciting when an artist (Local, no less!) like We Demand Parachutes arrives on the scene with those traits that made some of the aforementioned monsters of the genre stand out. And stand out they do on latest single “Cheerful Coping”, the title track off an upcoming new EP due later in 2024, which is just brimming with an enthusiastic energy built from chugging riffs surrounding a huge, anthemic chorus. It’s just barely two and a half minutes but within that time the combined might of some seriously colossal Grooves from drummer Ben Shumaker (More Daniel Fang less Travis Barker on this one) and bassist Seth Richardson as guitarist/vocalist Kevin McCord delivers this infectious croon will have “Cheerful Coping” rolling around in that noggin long after the final note rings out.
“Cheerful Coping” drops on April 12th and you can get ready now by pre-saving at the link here. For more from We Demand Parachutes, follow the socials across the interwebs when you click here, here, or here.
