Sonder, the debut EP from Boston’s Sound Advice is an enthralling, engaging collection of songs crafted utilizing the SA sonic template which consists of elements of Jazz, Blues, Soul, Pop and Alternative with an Indie flair. If you were charmed by either 2025’s “Nothing At All” or the recent release of the title track to this mammer jammer then A) You’re into some GREAT stuff but also, II) You’re in for a treat! Now tell all your friends so that everyone can enjoy what’s shaping up to be some grand songs of the summer!
If you’re already familiar with “Sonder” then you’re in luck because, much like an old friend, the track stands out in front waiting to guide listeners into the rest of the wonder that awaits within as “Don’t Worship Me” comes in next even smoother than “Sonder” with a tonal shift and Sara Velazquez’s serene vocal runs on full display.
“Autumn” is quiet and introspective with Velazquez’s tender voice and Dan Wrona’s subtle picking setting the stage before bassist Nick Franzini quietly adds to the mood until, eventually, Jack Rudolph’s keys and Paul Jasmin’s drumming gently broaden the musical palette for a finish that’s not necessarily an explosion of sound but more the spark that’s setting off something to come. Spinning out of “Autumn” with a purpose (Hence the spark comment…), “All The Time” is a celebration of sound and an embrace of grooves and moods as some Funk is added to the SA jukebox through Wrona’s slick riffs that’s capped off when some horns come out to play and add to the vibes.
“Wreck (New Version)” is all about that Jazz with an introspective intro that twinkles, building slowly into an enchanting end that highlights all of what the combined might of Franzini, Rudolph, Jasmin, Wrona and Velazquez bring to make Sound Advice such a unique musical entity in today’s always changing sonic climate.
