The Swell Fellas Elevate And Educate On Rad Desert Psych Rawk EP Novaturia

What a delightfully dense collection of magical music from The Swell Fellas! With their latest release, Novaturia, the transplanted trio originally from Maryland (Who now reside in Nashville) provide a glimpse into their future with an EP that acts as a third eye and connects the dots between their debut full-length (2020’s The Big Grand Entrance) and subsequent follow-up EP with a release that expands on their already impressive palette of erudite musical statements and takes their brand of Desert Psych Rawk to newfangled levels of aural awesomeness.

“Something’s There…” is simultaneously ominous, hypnotic, mystical, and transformative all the while built around a single resounding riff from Conner Poole that grows and grows into some truly monolithic magic. “High Lightsolate” really comes into its’ own bringing the sort of definition of The Swell Fellas “sound” if you will and with it a sort of levity with Chris Poole’s percussive prowess managing to convey moods just as effortlessly as the serene vocals that careen overhead while “Wet Cement” just crushes with an especially crunchy bass boom from Mark Rohrer on a track that’s like ASG mixing it up with Houdini-era Melvins

“…Another Realm” hits the nail on the head when it comes to its’ title as this sprawling closing number builds and broods for an otherworldly eleven minutes with Poole’s guitars constantly shape-shifting and tonally injecting just the right amount of vim and vigor into each note and movement as shrieking wails emanate out of the frets and the rhythmic brooding from Poole and Rohrer becomes a righteous combination of all things mighty, majestic, and thunderous.

Novaturia is out on June 17th. Pre-order/pre-save your copy now by heading here or by clicking on the Bandcamp stream below and for the latest from The Swell Fellas, follow them across their socials by clicking here or here.
