First off, if you want the best descriptor of the PAAR sound then head over to their Bandcamp page now because after listening through Die Notwendigkeit der Notwendigkeit (Translated as “The Need for The Need” if you’re interested), they hit the nail on the head in that department. As for my two cents on their sound? Listening through the record is like listening through Pornography-era The Cure fronted by Siouxsie Sioux.

Like most of you, when I first heard about what would become Imonolith it sounded like the most kickass collection of Metal’s best exes ever. Ex-members of Devin Townsend Project + ex-members of Strapping Young Lad sounded like a recipe for success as a concept alone. But as fate would have it, the SYL half would eventually depart the project before it fully came to fruition but regardless, a fire was lit! The seeds were sown! And what you will have on March 27th is the constantly evolving new Metal monsters, Imonolith.

We’ve said it before and we’ll say it again: Surprise music is the best music! That said, Otto Kinzel shocked the music world as he released an unexpected new track this week….well, maybe pleasantly surprised fans of his previous solo releases (You can read our takes on those here), his work in Dust Prophet, and more is probably the more accurate statement.

There was this band from San Diego called Rust that’s been on my mind due to nostalgia among other things. They were these fuzzed out Grunge rawkers who never went anywhere but the full-length and preceding EP they dropped were simply marvelous.

When I initially sat down to type up the review to Fotocrime’s sophomore record, South of Heaven, I was wearing my most favorite tee which happens to be a Coliseum one and I had plans to loosely compare it to Slayer’s album of the same name and the similar moods within each. But after listening through several times, former Coliseum mouthpiece/guitarist Ryan Patterson deserves to be seen in his own light on an album that defies the mold and finds Patterson’s true voice.
