It’s unclear exactly which bar, melody or note it was but at some point while reviewing “Sweet Nothing” recently, we pretty much made up our mind that whatever Jesus The Dinosaur puts out next we’d be there to shine a light on it. Which brings us to today and the Boston quintet’s newest single, “Empty Space”, and a whole lotta wordy ways of us saying that you might wanna get on board and be one of the cool kids now before all your friends are telling you to check them out later.
Anyway! “Sweet Nothing” may have been a modern Folk Rawk banger (Has that phrase ever been uttered before regarding that genre???) but it doesn’t hold a candle to the aura that Tommy Ng (Vocals/Acoustic Guitar) brings when starting off “Empty Space” with such a vivd series of lines as “I wanna remember walking down the street at night in summertime/Headphones on, streetlights casting beams through the humidity/No one at allllll around me” especially approaching that warmer weather peak beach soundtrack/playlist period. And it doesn’t stop aura-ing (Not a word) there! Rounded out by Jamie Rowe (Drums, Percussion), J Kimball (Electric Guitar), Bradley Robertson (Bass, Vocals) and Hannah Foxman (Electric Guitar, Vocals), Jesus The Dinosaur craft a stand the test of time kinda number with “Empty Space” thanks to the aforementioned talent involved delivering all the twinkling melodies weaving throughout, the sing-a-long “la la la’s”, and the steady, shuffling rhythm section foundation all of which lead to the subtle, serene march toward an end with Ng’s closing lyrics of “This could be/This could be/Infinity” lingering.
“Empty Space” is out on April 17th before debut LP Nothing To The Branches arrives on May 15th. For now, though, head here to find “Empty Space” the moment it drops. And for more from Jesus The Dinosaur, including a whole bunch of upcoming shows around town that takes the band to The Lilypad w/Kiernan (April 24th) and Warehouse XI (May 8th), head towards the JTD socials found by clicking here, here or here.
