Sumerian Records is quickly becoming one of our “go to” labels when it comes to new music. Artists like Bones UK was always a favorite of ours, Poppy consistently slays, and we (gasp) only recently discovered Bad Omens and, in particular, the glory that is The Death of Peace of Mind (Easily making it onto our ‘Tops of ’22’ list). Which brings us to ALIENBLAZE who has released a slew of poignant Trip-Hop meets Grunge singles with one of the more recent songs, “Romantically Dead”, seeing an “official” live release recently.
Whether you’re a fan of the original version from 2020 or, like us, a new convert thanks to the new rendition, there’s no denying that “Romantically Dead” is immediately infectious and enthralling thanks in part to that massive chorus that just screams to be heard at an equally massive volume. Against a backdrop of programmed beats and bass, ALIENBLAZE shines with a voice producing an anthem-sized anthem as her guitar crunches and rallies to add more depth to an already stellar track. While one of the draws of ALIENBLAZE’s music is the earnestness within each sonic story, the newer version of “Romantically Dead” definitely has a more raw quality which peels back the layers just a little more and, um, might make this version slightly superior? We said slightly, okay!
