You will never not hook us when you title your new song after one of the most famous lines uttered in an old Spider-Man comic. It also helps that the artist in question here is The Roland High Life who have a penchant for crafting songs regularly within the nerdsphere (AKA our wheelhouse) but despite the geekdom glaze, “new” song “Face it, Tiger” definitely hits the jackpot all on its’ own.
Why “new” in quotes you ask? First off, thanks for noticing! And secondly, although it’s indeed the latest in a slew of tracks from the Boston-based outfit (This one will be their 4th release this year) “Face it, Tiger” is actually the very first song written by TRHL but had yet to be recorded.
The only outfit that we know of who can seemingly pivot from a track focusing on feminist Dolours Price to one about Spidey (That transition in the live set will be something!), “Face It, Tiger” is another timeless slab of thumping Alt Americana that nicely treads the line between The Roland High Life’s beginnings while also propelling the band towards the future.
Thom Dunn’s croon is in full hero mode, Chris Correia and Jake WM team-up once again for their respective drum and bass beatdown, Nick Krefting brings clobberin’ time to life on the guitar (Especially later on alongside Dunn for the crunchy Green Day a la “Brain Stew” breakdown), and Walker Dieckmann builds a friendly neighborhood-like atmosphere in the keys department. Even the Andrew Garfield stans over here can overlook the Tobey Maguire sample at the end (To be fair, though, AG didn’t get a chance to have an MJ on screen) because “Face It, Tiger” is just that spectacular. Amazing even!
“Face It, Tiger” arrives on September 13th and you can get your own copy by heading here on release day! The band will be celebrating the release later that evening at Aeronaut in Allston while later this Fall you can catch them back-to-back performing at The Cellar in CT and at Rejects Brewing Oktoberfest on October 4th and 5th.
