The Chelsea Curve Share A Sophomore Success With The Sugary Pop Filling The Rideout

Design by Linda Pardee

There’s something about the way that Boston Mod Rawkers The Chelsea Curve craft their tunes which causes uncontrollable smiling whenever played. Just us? We highly doubt it. For a test, we suggest you put on any one of the singles released ahead of sophomore LP The Rideout then tell us we’re wrong. We’re not, are we? And how could we be with a record such as the aforementioned The Rideout that’s absolutely FILLED with sugary Pop Rawk goodness and fueled by the good vibes created when you take Josie and the Pussycats, The Beatles’ earliest offerings (Up to Help! which we know is sacrilege considering The Chelsea Curve’s aesthetic but trust us!) and put it through a Boston blendah (That’s Bostonspeak for “blender” if you’re not fluent).

Like we said, there’s many a track on The Rideout that you may be familiar with already (And that we may have reviewed previously) but it’s those anthemic, infectious songs (“Kindawanna”, “Never Come Down” and “‘Rally Round” to name a few) that build this solid structure and foundation for the rest of the record to grow off of and flourish. Elsewhere, opener (And newest single….) “Ride” is a driving lush Pop banger that’s as if The B-52’s and The Pretenders decided to make beautiful music together with the sunshine-y staccato sticks from drummer Bruce Caporal starting off “I Can’t Help It” before the determined bass stylings and anthemic voice of Linda Pardee side by side with Tim Gillis’ rollicking riffs add to the melodious Mod squad.

“In Real Life” serves up some more stompin’ on this thumping, pulsating Power Pop jam while earlier, “Outta My Head” dropped a powerful Pop Rawker on the ears that’s so much the sum of the moving parts effortlessly meted out by Pardee, Gillis and Caporal.

The Rideout is, ahem, out now through Rum Bar Records (With “Rally ‘Round” appearing on the LP courtesy of The Sound Cove). Get yours by heading here or to the stream below!
