We Are Scientists Continue On A Path Of Constant Excellence With LOBES

There’s something comforting in the knowledge of how amazing We Are Scientists has evolved over the years. Especially when considering how many of their contemporaries of the mid-aughts yielded many a one hit wonder/album and then went the way of the Dodo or just transmogrified into something different entirely (Looking at you, Arctic Monkeys), it’s a miracle they survived at all. Yet here we are with their eighth record right around the corner after a steady stream of solid releases and the feeling that We Are Scientists is still just getting started.

But I digress!

Following 2021’s brilliant Huffy, LOBES continues this seemingly constant path of continued excellence from the duo of Chris Cain and Keith Murray on an album that glows and glistens and sounds almost effortless in the way the duo has honed their craft over the years. “Operator Error” is soaked in ’80’s New Wave and good indication on where the rest of this heavily Electro Rawk-soaked record is going with “Dispense With Sentiment” following and firmly planting a slow moving groove-oriented feel driven by Cain’s bubbly bass lines throughout.

“Human Resources” just sounds so cool with a shimmery sheen of synthetic mastery lording over it and accenting Murray’s beaming vox while “Lucky Just To Be Here” is a neat nascent ditty that’s builds off an atmosphere into this vibrant sonic world. “Turn It Up” is a bouncing delight that’s fit for the clubs with “Settled Accounts” bringing the Funk into the mix, capped by another huge twinkling chorus. “Here Goes” doubles down on We Are Scientists’ penchant for masterfully crafting these anthems that are almost like hymnals to an extent because they’re so heavenly and just can’t help but encapsulate you the moment the sounds and Murray’s voice hit.

“Parachutes” is a jangly little gem and “Less From You” continues that aforementioned Electro Rawk trend with a Devo meets Jamiroquai meets Ohio Players futuristic jam that fittingly leads into “Miracle Of 22” which is a magical combination of pretty much everything that has made LOBES and, in turn, We Are Scientists great.

LOBES arrives on January 20th through Masterswan Records. Pre-orders are live now and can be checked out by heading here. For more from We Are Scientists, follow them across the information superhighway by heading here, here, or here.
