There needs to be more artists like Mountain Tamer in the world. The kinds of artists who just consistently bring that pure, unbridled, unrelenting Rawk is what I’m talking about! On their latest offering, Psychosis Ritual, the Los Angeles trio turn the volume and the dosage up to 11 for a record that’s bold, big, and beyond this world in its’ scope.

A tale of drugs, in-fighting, insecurities, and in-depth stories on the songs and albums you love and more, Simon Young’s authorised biography of Therapy?, So Much For The 30 Year Plan, is an essential read for not only fans of the band but also for music aficionados who love a good yarn.

Four Stroke Baron records are like the gifts that keep giving. Their last outing (Which you can read all about by clicking here) was Prog perfection and their upcoming record which collects a slew of diverse and new covers as well as re-recorded versions of songs which originally appeared on King Radio is similarly a godsend.

Listening through the debut EP from London, Ontario’s The White Swan is akin to a spiritual experience. Wrapped up in a dreamstate surrounded by heavy guitars, stirring synths, and a robust rhythm section, Nocturnal Transmission is a far cry from the former outfit of The White Swan’s Mercedes Lander.

Whoa. Orochen is definitely in the “don’t judge a book…” category. Ignore the scary striped Tasmanian tiger that graces the cover and embrace the sounds because on their third EP, Thylacine, the “Gothenburg-based apocalyptic post-industrial neofolk” (Per their Facebook description) quartet bring to mind Swoon-era Silversun Pickups, The Stone Roses, and even Neurosis for a truly unique blend of blissful noise.

My first taste of Led Zeppelin’s “No Quarter”, believe it or not, was the Crowbar version which graced their self-titled record in 1993. That said, I’m obviously a huge Led Zeppelin fan.
But I digress.

Alice In Chains is one of my all-time favorites. To the point of being almost sacred. So when Layne Staley tragically passed away, I like so many others believed that Alice In Chains was done. They weren’t and today continue to honor the legacy of Staley while cementing their status as living legends in the upper echelons of Hard Rawk and Metal. Speaking of that legacy, it was 1992’s Dirt that helped to catapult the Seattle quartet into those hallowed halls and almost twenty years later Magnetic Eye Records is paying tribute to the iconic record with their latest [Redux] release.

I love me some Industrial. If we’re being honest, that’s my favorite genre. But Darkwave is a very, VERY close second. And artists like Corlyx really solidify that ranking for me and make me question whether or not I should reconsider my current genre rankings. But let’s face it, in a lot of the cases the biggest difference is the delivery. Industrial has yer heavy guitars while Darkwave relies on sultry synths to convey intent but in each case, the results are potent.

Unrefined and unrelenting, 2018’s NOT(e)WORTHY from England’s The Penny Antics is a rabble-rousing raucous-fest that hearkens back to a time when wearing flannel 24/7 was rad and destroying your instruments on stage nightly was innovative. Within the five tracks presented here, Lewis Hammond and Shane Wood share a masterful display of everything that made old school Grunge, Indie, and Pop Punk of the ’90’s so much fun.

Enthralling is probably the most perfect adjective I could think of when describing the music released by Lauren Lakis thus far. Combining this kind of mysticism that Marriages or Chelsea Wolfe exude with a Pop veneer, Lakis is making music that is mysterious and powerful yet accessible.
