As a massive fan, I try to limit how often I throw out comparisons to Kyuss (And, to a lesser extent, Queens of the Stone Age) but with Greenleaf, it’s kinda hard not to as it’s rightly deserved. “Good God I Better Run Away” in particular is like this ferocious forging of Kyuss’ Desert-soaked fuzz and Hermano’s honed wall of sound with Josh Homme’s velveteen voice as is opener “Tides” which has guitarist Tommi Holappa rippin’ it up like Homme used to during his early days. And now that that’s out of the way let’s get to the rest of Echoes From A Mass, shall we?

Pupil Slicer make the kind of heavy that compelled us to resurrect “Untitled Metal Column” for the first time in over a year. We don’t use this column for any reason and only clean the mothballs off when it’s something really deserving like this London-based trio that is rightly being hailed as one of the next big things in Metal. Fer chrissakes, their name alone warrants attention to see if the music matches the moniker (Spoiler alert: It does!).

Sometimes a promo for a band that I don’t listen to on the regular comes across ye olde digital desk and I have to go back to see what I’ve covered in the past for research which often turns to regret. Regret because, more often than not and especially in the case of Dust Moth, I realize that I’m missing out an artist that is aurally awesome.

Much like the classic Ghostbusters quandary towards the conclusion of the film regarding answering to the affirmative when a higher power asks if you’re a god: When a choose-your-own erotic fantasy novel comes across your digital desk asking for a review…the answer is always “YES!”

Blues-fueled Alternative Rawk is the name of the game when it comes to Shedonist’s latest single, “Daddy”, so if you grew up in the ’80’s and ’90’s like I did then you’re in for a treat. And if you didn’t, you’re still in for a treat because the new song rawks.

Along the lines of Bruce Springsteen, The Gaslight Anthem, and even The Clash to an extent, Guerilla State make the kind of Folk meets Punk meets Americana that speaks out with sharp jabs at the current global and political climate while also compelling listeners to sway along with the sweeping choruses and shout-at-the-top-of-your-lungs choruses.

Echodrone make the kind of music that words like “magnificent” and “majestic” were created for. As a whole, Resurgence is every bit as epic and elegant as fans have come to expect from the San Franciscan quintet while transcending modern tropes to become tantamount to true perfection within Echodrone’s already impressive body of work.

Instead of boasting on the fact that we’ve yet to review an Evergrey record despite attempting to on multiple occasions, howzabout we just call an audible and start over? That said, clean slate initiative engaged! So yeah, Evergrey has been around for some time and is still one of Sweden’s Premier Progressive Power Metal outfits. If you’ve heard any of the eleven records that’ve come before then you’d know that fact to be true. Also true is that almost thirty years into their career and with album number twelve lurking on the horizon, Evergrey sound as vital and relevant as, ahem, ever especially on Escape Of The Phoenix.
