Sonically, Suffer Summer is like this gorgeous ode to mid-’90’s Alt Rawk along the same lines of what SPICE was doing on their 2020 self-titled debut with Chastity (AKA Brandon Williams) managing to tap into a different kind of raw power bringing guitar tones which dwell in the Post-Hardcore realm and giving fans a sound akin to Handsome mixed with Sunny Day Real Estate.

I don’t why I thought it’d be a good idea to do both an end of the year list and preview list reflecting the year they’re happening in….but here we are. Our list of twenty one albums and change has already posted (Which you can read here) so now it’s time to close the book on 2021 and look to the future with 22 albums we think will make this year sound even better than the last…and change.

What a savagely epic way to kick off the new year, right?!?!? Moldovan Metalheads Infected Rain begin 2022 with their fifth full-length and a record that will leave fans transfixed by its’ next level heaviness. While I’m going to actively try not to declare anything “ONE OF THE BEST OF 2022” barely a week in…I don’t necessarily see a problem with giving Ecdysis a “MUST HEAR” brand because that’s for sure what it is. And as for the former, check back with me in 6 months, okay?

Temptress gave you the best soundtrack for your Halloween so why not make it a twofer by providing another one to ring in the New Year loudly in style. And yep, you read that right, New Hampshire’s own Temptress has given you not one, but TWO full-lengths barely two months apart. How lucky are we?

I always do like 50 different drafts for just the opening alone then end up with one stripped down thing like this at the end of it all because I just wanna get this ish out there to the masses. 2021 has been up’s and down’s in the world but a pretty solid year overall for music. So much so that I almost considered not ranking my massive list of 21 releases that did it for me in 2021. Almost. As always, thanks for liking and following and most importantly, thanks for reading!

Restless Spirit bring a refreshing kind of Progressive Rawk on their latest, Blood of the Old Gods, that will continually regenerate your faith in modern artists being able to kick out the jams with each and every listen. Honing in on this unique sonic essence that captures the old school epic rawness of earlier Baroness mixing it up with Lo-Pan and Blind-era Corrosion Of Conformity with the way Paul Aloisio’s voice soars and sounds like the second coming of Karl Agell at times, Restless Spirit deliver one massive sonic sojourn that’s not to be overlooked this late in the year.
[Read more…]The Ritualists Masterfully Balance Beauty With Bombast On Baroque & Bleeding
There’s a lot of amazing music that comes to mind when listening through the second outing from NYC’s The Ritualists but none of it actually lives up to what Baroque & Bleeding actually brings to the party. Sure, there’ll be comparisons to Franz Ferdinand or to Pulp and White Lies (Both of whom have been produced by B&B producer Ed Buller) and even to any number of bands emerging from the mid-’00’s Brit Rawk revival but what Christian Dryden and The Ritualists collective has conjured up together on their sophomore record is the sort of aural originality that comes once in a lifetime.

I don’t do too many negative reviews on this site because, as I’ve said in the past, I don’t have the time to waste on something that’s already wasted my time. That said, with the level of disappointment I had after seeing the last movie I was really looking forward to in 2021 (Matrix, The King’s Man, Nightmare Alley, and Spider-Man are definite must-see’s for me but my expectations are currently tempered for all of these) and at the urging of Mrs RNRF, I kinda had to. So for that, I thank you Ghostbusters: Afterlife or as I will forever unaffectionately refer to you: Crapterlife.

In a year that has already had Rhys Fulber put out a new Front Line Assembly record, team again with FLA cohort Bill Leeb for the surprise re-emergence of Noise Unit, and work on the final Fear Factory record to feature vocalist Burton C. Bell among other achievements, the prolific producer extraordinaire and electronic wizard has deemed it necessary to also unveil his latest solo release to cap off 2021 and we’re all the better for it.

The KVB is one of those artists that is so consistent that a review is almost unnecessary at this point because fans know that when it comes to the duo of Kat Day and Nicholas Wood, it’s basically guaranteed that what you’re getting is a work of art. Like their latest full-length, Unity, which is one of The KVB’s most solid records to date and an easy spoiler for folks who’ve already made up their minds on what their supposed “Best Of 2021” is already.
