The end is nigh for the return of the mighty Rock & Roll Rumble as we settle in for Night 2 (Show #8 of 9 if you’re keeping count) of the Semi-Final Round on our way to the Finals on May 6th. But tonight (April 22nd) over at Sonia, the artists that made it this far gave it their all with one of the most solid shows so far this Rumble season. Let’s dive in, shall we?

Who says all Horror has to be live action? Also, can we give kudos to the selection committee at Salem Horror Fest for giving fans such a diverse line up of films that celebrate and represent our most favorite holiday… and in April, no less! Written, Directed, and Animated by Zach Passero (Who also did Wicked Lake featuring one of the most kick ass Ministry B-sides ever cuz Music!), The Weird Kidz is an incredibly, ahem, weird film but is truly wonderful to behold.

Absence makes the heart grow fonder and all that jazz, right? Well, that especially rings true when it comes to the music that Gozu has been spewing out ramping up to the release of Remedy on May 19th. “Tom Cruise Control”, released last month and reviewed by us here, was a great reintroduction to the Boston quartet after a 5-year gap between full-lengths but “CLDZ” is just presenting fans with some next level Gozu material that, dare we say, kinda blows away an already impressive body of work.

We told you were getting into movies! And nothing legitimizes that factoid more than talking with one of the stars and co-writer of the flick we recently reviewed, Bury The Bride! You might already know Krsy Fox from Underworld: Evolution or from last year’s Allegoria (Also directed by Bury The Bride director/co-writer Spider One and available on Shudder right here right now!) or perhaps you’ve heard her fronting Knee High Fox (Check them out here if you haven’t) or on the most recent Theory Of A Deadman called Dinosaur where she co-wrote a handful of tracks. Whatever the case may be, there’s no denying you’ll definitely know her after her enthralling performance as “Sadie” in Bury The Bride which has its’ East Coast Premiere on April 22nd at this year’s Salem Horror Fest before making its’ small screen debut on Tubi.

We know how to pick winners, apparently?!?! Wolves just sounded like a cool concept when choosing what screeners to start with this year and now it looks like this Salem Horror Fest “Official Selection” is now a Jury Award winner to boot! So congrats on that! But is it deserving of the accolades? Spoiler Alert: That’d be a big hells yes from us at least!

It’s finally here! The long awaited new EP from Sunshine Riot, of which we’ve reported on 3 of the 4 tracks within already, is just about ready to be consumed by yer earholes. We’re breaking into the movies, kids! Sort of. While in our genesis, we dabbled in lots of different kinds of reviews to find our footing and, if memory serves, there is at least one posted movie review in our archives somewhere. That said, it takes a special kind of event for us to branch out again into movies and as a “Masshole 4 Life”, it doesn’t get more special than the Salem Horror Fest with whom we’ve teamed up with to bring a few previews/reviews of flicks headed to their 2023 event which lasts over two weekends beginning with a special kick off event on Thursday, April 20th.

Week 2 of the triumphant return of the Rock And Roll Rumble raged on at the the Middle East Upstairs on Thursday, April 13th for what was a bittersweet event for us having relatively recently reviewed 3 out of the 4 artists vying for a spot in the Semi-Final rounds. It also happened to be one of the loudest of the whole Rumble so far as attendees were greeted once again by our fabulous host, Anngelle Wood of Boston Emissions, to start a raucous night of, ahem, RAWK, and then some!

Listening through Drifting in the Endless Void, the first release from Sweden’s Dozer in fifteen years, is like being transported back in time when the term “Desert Rawk” was still being formulated. It’s a genesis kind of heaviness that transcends any one genre with an incessant pummeling that’s profound as it builds upon a sonic world that Dozer helped shape having come up around the fall of Kyuss in the mid-’90’s.

Worcester wins big at Night 2 of the Rock And Roll Rumble! With only debut single “Sleeper” under their belt and out for the masses to date, Not Bad Not Well was kind of the underdog going into their Rumble preliminary round, right? Right. And like the best underdog stories, the Worcester outfit was the one to triumph and snag that coveted crown at the end of the night. They give out crowns to the winners, yeah?
